The turbulent action-shooter's lifecycle is finally coming to an end.
"Disappointing but also rather expected news that came out last night, High Guard is officially being shut down. No point beating around the bush with this one, High Guard is being shut down, the game will be closing down as soon as March 12th, before then there will be one final update for the game but yeah again the key thing to know is that High Guard is on the way out. So before we talk more about this let's just check out all the details and go from there. So yes High Guard is shutting down for good, just weeks after launch developer WildLight has confirmed that the multiplayer shooter will be sunset on March 12th. So it has now been confirmed that High Guard is closing down for good less than two months after its launch, the announcement was made by WildLight themselves who confirmed that the servers will be turned off for good on March 12th. Today we're sharing difficult news, we have made the decision to permanently shut down High Guard on March 12th, since launch more than 2 million players stepped into High Guard's world, you shared feedback, created content and many believed in what we were building, for that we are deeply grateful."
"Prior to this developers plan to release one final update, among other things it will add a new playable character and a new weapon, a final farewell to the few who still play, which at the time of writing fluctuates between 200 and 400 people according to SteamDB. The team is excited to release one final game update to enjoy in the remaining life of the game, we'll be adding a new warden, a new weapon, account level progression, skill trees, full patch notes are coming and we're targeting tonight or tomorrow morning for the patch release. The situation with the game which has been bleeding players since its launch has simply become untenable, Tencent backed out of the project and took its considerable assets with it which kept High Guard afloat. The announcement of the shutdown therefore comes as no surprise to anyone who has been following the drama, a sad but not unexpected outcome of this whole mess and we wish all the developers the best. "Uh man it's it's disappointing when you talk about these things again we knew that High Guard was on the way out I I always assumed that High Guard would be one of those games that would get like a good year and then they would probably be on its way out uh just because it's what we typically see from these sort of live games that they again they can't they can't just come out and draw in a few million players they need to maintain millions and millions of players for their entire life cycle to be relevant um you know they talk about how High Guard has has reached about 200 about 2 million players since it's launched the Ubisoft boss recently came out and said that Rainbow Six Siege still hits about 2.5 million players daily so that's the sort of levels that we're talking about here between these games um and that's why you look at these games as such risky gambles because they're not cheap there's so much money goes into making these games and so much time goes into making them and if they don't come out of the gate swinging they're really in trouble and that's why you look at every one that gets announced you look at Marathon you see what happened with the server slam how you know had decent interest but decent interest isn't good enough for these games they need to be exceptional interest so it's going to be one of those weeks where we're talking about High Guard now and it being shut down in March 12th uh the next one's going to be Marathon and whether the game is going to be able to support its audience or whether it can't it you know whether it's going to struggle to to rip players away from more established titles uh and especially the extraction shooter genre which is you know you talk of recently you're in Arc Raiders is it going to be able to bring those players across and and maintain a player base that it can support you'd hope so but all the cards are against it and again High Guard is the latest example of it so but yeah if you haven't played High Guard yet if you are still somewhat interested about how how it was put together and whether uh there was you know whether you you know you just want to try it out before it it goes offline for good then you've got eight days just over a week to do so before it's shut down on March 12th uh I'd suggest doing so because it's one of those things you know you're fortunate enough to be able to try High Guard in the less than two months that it was available uh it's not as tight a window as say Concord but you know anyone who played Concord has has that in their pocket to say they once played Concord and uh now you get a similar situation with High Guard so go check it out if you haven't already and if not you know obviously it won't be long before the game's shut down for good and uh as for what this means for developer wildlife is unclear a lot of the developers have been laid off already so you'd have to assume that the developer is probably going to be shut down rather soon after High Guard has been shut down but we'll wait for more official information on that but again that's all the time I have so thank you for joining me on today's JRTV news I'll be back now tomorrow for the next one of the week so thank you for that and I'll see you all then"
