Shift Up is exploring broadening the platform horizons of the game.
"Hello everyone and welcome back to another GRTV News. Today we're going to be talking about something that we noticed over the weekend, or late on Friday rather, something that has actually picked up quite a bit of traction.
Specifically we're talking about Stellar Blade. Anytime we ever talk about Stellar Blade it seems to do quite well. It shows there's a good audience that people are interested in this game from developer ShiftUp."
"And the reason we're talking about it today isn't because of the confirmed sequel that's in production. It isn't about that at all. It's actually to do with the original game and it potentially losing its PlayStation 5 console exclusivity.
So as of the moment you might be aware that Stellar Blade is only available on PlayStation 5 and PC. But maybe in the future that won't be the case. So let's hop on in and have a look.
So yes, Stellar Blade developer seems to imply Switch 2 and Xbox releases. ShiftUp says in their quarterly report that they are reviewing platform expansion beyond PS5 and PC to broaden audience reach."
"So when Stellar Blade was announced any discussion about the game was promptly reduced to chatter about Eve's derriere and her alarmingly vacuum sealed wardrobe.
When it finally debuted on PlayStation 5 in 2024 it turned out that ShiftUp had put a lot of work into the gameplay and it received consistently high ratings and sold very well with an extra boost when it was released on PC in 2025.
I think it's actually still PlayStation's best performing PC game or PC exclusive. It's not a first party studio ShiftUp so it's weird to call it a PlayStation PC exclusive but that's where it currently is."
"But anyway now it seems that ShiftUp wants to broaden its audience and release Stellar Blade to more formats with Xbox Series S and X probably being the most likely candidate but perhaps also Switch 2.
In the company's latest quarterly report we can read we're reviewing platform expansion beyond PS5 and PC to broaden audience reach. This approach is expected to both introduce the title to new players and gradually build anticipation for the next chapter in the series.
We expect 2026 to be a year in which more users experience the existing title while momentum and anticipation builds towards the next phase of the Stellar Blade franchise."
"We already know that the sequel to Stellar Blade will be released as a multi-platform or multi-format title and based on this it sounds like the developers want future fans to have a chance to enjoy part 1 before they tackle part 2.
How do you interpret this announcement and would you buy Stellar Blade if it came to Switch 2 and or Xbox Series S and X?
I'd agree with Jonas there. I don't think you can really take anything else from that when they specifically say we are reviewing platform expansion beyond PS5 and PC."
"It basically means that they are looking at Nintendo and they're looking at Xbox. There's very few other platforms that you can possibly talk about there aside from mobile really.
Technically you can throw Mac in there as well I guess. I'm not actually sure whether Stellar Blade is currently available on Mac. You probably can play it on there.
But as for other sort of official sort of platforms, there's not that many these days. So it does seem highly likely that Stellar Blade will eventually land on Xbox consoles and on probably most likely just Nintendo Switch 2 but we'll stay tuned for that."
"As for the sort of timeline, it's unclear. The developer is working on Stellar Blade 2 but that's probably still a few years out, maybe a couple of years out. They are particularly efficient over at ShiftUp.
So maybe it's something that we see this year, maybe it's something we see early 2027. But the good news is that if you are an Xbox fan, if you're a Nintendo fan, you have been keeping an eye on Stellar Blade as something that you're interested in playing.
It looks like before Stellar Blade 2 comes out, Stellar Blade will arrive on those respective platforms. So stay tuned for more. But otherwise that's all the time that I have so I'll see you all in the next GeoTV News tomorrow."
