Statik's Latest Arrivals (Quick Look) - Power Without the Hassle

We take a look at a collection of new items from Statik, including various cables and charging solutions.

Audio transcription

"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look.
We've been taking a look at static products over the course of the past six months and have been increasingly pleased to see, again, a willingness to just push the envelope just a tiny bit because how much can you do with a regular USB Type-C charging cable?
Well it turns out you can do quite a lot."

"So they have a new lineup of products, some of them are called PowerPivot and I'll show you why in just a little sec, and a new semi-solid MagSafe and Qi2 enabled power bank which will give you easy 5,000 mAh in what appears to be a really sleek package due to its semi-solid battery state setup."

"So let's go through what this essentially is.
This pretty ugly cable in general is all about usability and choice.
So it might look a little bit messy but there is a method to the madness.
First and foremost, you might see this antiquated USB Type-A port and think, well I don't have any USB Type-A ports on any of the machines that I use, why would I have this?
Well it is only because you can remove it and replace it with USB Type-C."

"Now is this usable?
Well it might be in one case or another.
If you have a big GaN charger, there might be 3 USB Type-C ports and 1 USB Type-A port so you want to be able to have that freedom."

"There isn't a place to store it once you remove it but still, pretty cool little idea.
And that freedom is replicated here on the other end.
Now the reason it's called PowerPivot is because it pivots around, I don't know if this shows on camera, I hope that it does."

"And that means that you just have more choice in regards to how exactly you want this.
Because it might be annoying if the cable comes in at an angle and it has to be flush with the phone's port, well now this can completely adapt to the way that you're holding the device that you want to charge."

"For instance, let's say that charging comes from here, you have a computer here for instance, now it can just pivot and fit directly into the port.
It is a bit weird that micro USB is the standard but that's because these aren't actually like this, like little extra enclosures that you place on top, these are completely magnetic so you can simply remove it and you can see here there's a small array of pogo pins and once you attach and it's on there really, really solidly."

"It feels great.
Now the three that you get is USB Type-C, micro USB, and Lightning.
Both of which, of these two, are outdated platforms.
Apple haven't done Lightning for a couple of generations and the last couple of devices is no longer using Lightning."

"But even if you only use USB Type-C, this pivot design is a really cool idea and it charges 100 watts too.
There is also just a straight braided power cable here which has the same pivot, does not have the interchangeable magnetic enclosures on and you can still alter between USB Type-A and USB Type-C."

"I just left a little sticker on here but as you can see here, they have added a little rubber sort of catch, meaning that it is there either way, which is great.
And the braided design makes it feel just a little bit more premium.
Finally, but we also have, you know, they have a normal magnetic charging cable, USB C to USB C still feels great as well."

"Then an interesting little battery pack here, which obviously is ChiTu enabled, meaning that for a Google Pixel device that has ChiTu wireless charging coils, which is the same magnetic array that you get in MagSafe, meaning that this supports both.
And it's really difficult to explain on camera, but this is very light, like this feels much lighter than 5000 milliamp hour power packs did just a year or so ago."

"And when it's on there, it will obviously deliver, well, what appears to be a full charge.
Now, I think this has like a 4300 milliamp hour battery, but there is some energy lost in the transfer, but still to carry around an entire extra charge for your phone and what feels like less than a really lightly packed wallet feels like a pretty good trade-off."

"So static again shows that you don't have to pay a lot to get these decent extra functionality from something as rudimentary and banal as cables.
So look up on their site to see if there's something for you.
See you on the next one."
