Mu-jik "Boichi" Park was one of the top guests at the Comicon 25 in Naples and here, together with other journalists, we shared a round table to discuss his style and influences, manhwa-manga-anime, Marco Polo, Dr. Stone, and more...
"Grazie mille! I'm very pleased to be working both on titles in which I partake in the creative process and others in which I have to adapt my drawings and illustrations to the original author's style.
That's how I feel about it."
"In order to design Marco Polo, of course...
Regarding the character's design, Marco Polo is part of the YLAB universe, and its character design has to be adapted to the Multiversus taste, but I'd given to Niccolo, Marco's father, some historical reference to Marco Polo's travels in China, like a wok pan, and an oriental knife behind his back."
"The story is published in a form of a webtoon, but on a graphical level it appeals more to the Shōnen public.
It has been an honor as a comic book artist to work in Japan.
I appreciate its system because it appeals to a really vast audience, even to everyday people who are not experts and many have great respect for the authors."
"About comic book artists and mangaka from around the world, I think that if I have entered in the Jump Shōnen, even they can have their own space.
All of these works [pointing towards the book received], are important.
While Dr. Stone, I have to adhere to the style, whilst in the spin-off I can use more of my own styles."
"Whilst in Marco Polo, I can use all the knowledge I have accumulated and I have gotten from the last two experiences.
Whilst on Super String, both online and on paper, I have different points of view, I have different views, both vertical and horizontal.
Horizontal for the paper, and vertical for the webtoon."
"As a comic book writer, the popularity of manga in the West and outside of Japan, it seems like a natural phenomenon.
The first objective is to entertain a great variety of people.
To entertain a great audience, for example [he points to the BL scene inside of the comic book he has been gifted] Based on your preferences, you can choose a title, you can choose a saga of mangas."
"Hi, thank you so much for joining us.
I'm David, with Gamereactor European magazine, and I come from Spain, so thank you so much.
How do you feel about anime's renewed popularity in the West, thanks to streaming platforms, and about the differences between Dr. Stone manga and anime, even if they are small?
BL Manga Differently from Dr. Stone, in manga and anime, in animations, there are characteristics that I can take from the animation, and I can put in the mangas."
"So I can learn from the animations I make, and put them in the manga.
So I can discuss whether how I can change the scene, depending on what I do in animation.
I hope so."
