GRTV News - Cyberpunk 2077's sequel is now in pre-production

There are still some years to go before it enters production, but we have an encouraging update on Cyberpunk 2.

"Hello there, welcome back to GRTV News, I'm Alex as always going through the afternoons latest and greatest when it comes to gaming, technology, entertainment, whatever you like and indeed whatever you love, we always have it here for you at GRTV News and of the wider Gamereactor network as a whole, so if you like what you see and you want to see more, be sure to check out Gamereactor wherever you get it from for more gaming reviews, gaming previews, movie reviews, series reviews, exclusives, interviews, world news, sports news and of course so much more, without further ado though, today we're talking Cyberpunk, specifically Cyberpunk 2077 sequel which has just moved into pre-production, so I know that we're talking financial figures here because this does come from my financial document from CD Projekt Red, but as I always say when we're talking numbers, sometimes while they're not as exciting as something like a new game announcement, they can be really important to find out where a company is up to with it's latest projects, so we know that CD Projekt Red is working on a multitude of different things right now, The Witcher 4 being the thing that they've got all hands on deck for right now, as we saw the first trailer for it at the Game Awards last year and people are anticipating it within the next couple of years probably, if not a bit further down the timeline, but something else that CD Projekt Red is working on is this massive sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 which is currently being labelled Cyberpunk 2 in this internal document, so it was once called Project Orion when it was first announced back in 2022, but has since apparently, at least internally, been now labelled Cyberpunk 2."

"We're not sure if that's going to be the final name for the game as it might confuse people a bit if you go from Cyberpunk 2077 to Cyberpunk 2, but we know that in the past that CD Projekt Red has said that something's not going to be the title and that it ended up being the title, I think it was the same for The Witcher 4, but yes, we know that it's now entered pre-production, it's worth noting that pre-production can still take years on its own before we see it into production with things like conceptualisation, sort of proving the concepts that they've put forward for this game are going to be taking a long time to do, especially with as many people that are working on The Witcher 4 right now as there are, it's unlikely that we're going to see this game sort of really move through this phase very quickly, but Cyberpunk 2077 sequel has got an encouraging update."

"What is also encouraging if you're into CD Projekt Red, just sort of as a company, if you like them as a company, is that they're still continuing to sell very well with their recent and not-so-recent releases. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, has now celebrated selling 60 million copies, and Cyberpunk 2077's expansion Phantom Liberty, which released in 2023, has now sold 10 million copies as of the recent figures, so that shows that again, even though there might not be anything new or brand new from this studio for some time in the future, there's still a lot of hype around those previous releases, and CD Projekt Red has come full circle from being completely lambasted for the Cyberpunk 2077 launch to now being celebrated and lauded once more as one of gaming's most exciting developers and publishers. But yeah, it's an encouraging update about Cyberpunk 2077, but it'll still be years before we see anything from it. Are you excited for Cyberpunk 2077's sequel? What do you want to see from it?
