Philips Solar Outdoor Lights (Quick Look) - Spice Up Your Outside Lights

These smart lights are designed to be used in external conditions, enabling you to add some flair and colour to your garden and outside living space.

Audio transcription

"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look.
Initially, we have reviewed and covered Philips as a hue manufacturer because that leans more directly into sort of the smart home setup where you have bulbs that do different kind of lighting kits and it listens and pairs with the music you're playing and it works with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, all of these different things that means that it falls pretty naturally into our sort of field of expertise."

"But, obviously, one good thing which has come out, which is associated with the warmer weather arriving, particularly here in Scandinavia, it's so nice to not, you know, be below freezing all the time, and that is an increased focus on the garden, the terrace, just spending more time outside."

"But that does not mean that you have to be without smart lighting solutions.
So, Philips has something called their Outdoor Series, which isn't necessarily hue branded as such, but because it doesn't really need to be turned on or off with a phone because there is a high quality, that is Philips' own words, high quality solar panel on these things."

"This is called the Pedestal and this right here is called the Portable Light, but both of them have a really nice, which looks like a high quality solar panel mounted on the top.
They will then suck in rich sunlight and then, when necessary, will power on to create warm, natural, and nice light during evening hours, say."

"So, this, for instance, as you can pretty much see initially from the construction itself, has this little sort of spike at the bottom where you just insert it into the ground and then it's pretty much ready to go.
There is an on-off button right here, which is covered in this really sort of sticky rubber, which is nice, meaning that you can turn it off if you want to, but if you don't, there is a particular set, I think this has around six hours of on time with warm white light, that is again Philips' own words, and you would have this, say, in a driveway or somewhere where the light would be natural and feel nice."

"So, for instance, it could be from, say, 10pm to 4am or something like that, depending on what you want to set up.
A really nice thing is that both of these, of course, are made for outdoor pursuits, meaning that they are IP44 certified."

"That means that they both have a 4 rating for water and also a 4 rating for dust ingress, meaning that, whatever the case may be, you don't have to worry about a particular weather phenomenon that takes these guys completely out.
They won't."

"IP44 ratings perhaps isn't as good as an IP68 rating, which modern smartphones would have where you can dunk it in seawater for days, but it's definitely going to be enough for rain, heavy rain, and all manner of different things, even snow and cold temperatures if you want to leave it out during the winter."

"Both of them have a promised 15,000 hours of working time.
That is a lot, but, of course, you would also expect something like that because you would leave these out for years and years and years.
I will say, though, that these, compared to some of Hue's pricing models, are very competitively priced."

"I mean, these are, I would say that they're cheap.
Perhaps it's because it forgoes some of the smart functionality that it can attain these prices, but I won't say direct prices because it might vary in your country, but these were cheap, particularly a lot cheaper than some of the Hue outdoor stuff that you can buy."

"This one has around 200 lumen, which is going to be that warm, not dim, but definitely not that bright LED-ish flashy light.
That's not what this is going for, and this is 8020, but this also can do, as you can see on the box right here, different kinds of colored versions of the light, so it's a bit dimmer than that, and it can also charge directly through USB Type-C if that's what you want."

"There is a little rubberized cover right here, which you can remove and then charge it like that if that's what you want.
But then again, if you place it somewhere where there is naturally occurring sunlight, it should recharge all on its own through the solar panel."

"So, really cool.
We're going to have to take some pictures and actually sort of know, find out whether or not the lights produced are comfortable and whether or not they work in the regimen that Philips say, but if it does, it's inexpensive, and it's a good way to sort of liven up your outdoors when the summer is coming."

"Thank you so much for watching.
See you on the next one."
