"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look.
Now we've been wanting AMD to more directly compete with NVIDIA on the GPU front for a while now, because even though NVIDIA makes some decisions which seem to be very anti-consumer and have recently gotten into a lot of hot water due to the way that they've marketed something like the 4070, AMD haven't really responded, mainly due to them not being able to offer something like DLSS frame generation technology and ray tracing, they're using a more basic rasterization process, but it seems like that while they aren't really ready to compete on the flagship level, meaning 4080, 4090, I mean 5080, 5090, we've gotten to a new generation and it was also the 5070 before, point is that they're not directly competing on that flagship level, they are offering cheaper GPUs which offer a more direct competitor to something like the 5070 and older GPUs as well."
"So here it is, this is obviously not AMD's own, but the Gigabyte Gaming OC 16G version of the Radeon 9070 XT, that's a lot of letters and numbers, but the point is that this is Gigabyte's version of the 9070 XT and it should be, at least on paper, obviously we just took this out of the box so we don't know yet, a pretty nifty alternative, particularly in sort of the mid-range-y segment."
"Now it should be said that there is no current MSRP for this card, it is being determined at local retailers and by third parties, but you should be able to get something like this for around 850 Euros, which isn't cheap, it's not like a budget card, but it's certainly more budget-friendly than what some of the cards that Nvidia can offer you."
"It is based on AMD's new RDNA 4 platform, which offers vast improvements across the board.
As is indicated by the name, it utilizes 16GB of GDDR6 memory, as was expected, it has 4096 stream processors, and it runs a 256-bit memory interface with dual BIOS, so that means performance are silent if that's what you're on, and then there is obviously a reinforcement of the whole structure, and that is both something that comes down to improvements made by AMD on the GPU level, and then all of the stuff that is built on top of that by Gigabyte."
"So for instance, this cooling system right here, which obviously has been engineered by Gigabyte, is the triple fan hawks that we have seen before, which reduces air resistance, there is a built-in vapor chamber with screen cooling, and a graphene and a lubricant for the sleeve bearings, which all mean that all of these materials together, alongside this very efficient fan setup, should be able to alleviate heat build-up, and basically just passively and actively cool at the same time."
"It also uses industrial-grade thermal conductor gel, which is great, and because of all of this, Gigabyte has been able to overclock the card, so it now goes to 3060MHz.
Again, all of those numbers are pretty meaningless, unless that they can produce actual frames in actual games, and we'll be running this through our test bench suite very, very soon."
"It is a pretty distinct industrial mechanical design, with some subtle RGB, alongside here for instance, where we will be slotting the card into its slot, and a little sliding backplate here, which is very cool as well.
Now there is no sharp soldering connections, which I think is a nice improvement, and overall, this card looks performant, more so than anything else."
