Audio transcription

"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look. Not too long ago we took a look at this, Apple's perhaps most controversial phone in years, the iPhone 16E. Now there's a lot of people that think that the 16E is priced way out of proportion and that it was supposed to be cheaper based on the compromises that Apple have made when they designed it and launched it for I think $599 USD. Now, if you've purchased one of these, chances are you want your phone to last. Not saying that people that buy a 16 Pro won't, but the point is that this phone was designed for people that just want an entryway into the ecosystem and the SE, which this replaces, traditionally they are the ones that are the longest holdouts. They hold onto their phone for long, long, long periods of time, meaning that when they are ready to swap, they also purchase the cheapest one, they don't care about newer features or something like that, they just want a phone, they just want an iPhone that lasts. Now, if you want your phone to last, you might fancy covers from UAG."

"Now they make a whole host of different covers, all based on some, at least the same design conventions, which is, their tagline is like, I think, designed to go further. So the point is protection first and foremost. Now, if you go to their website, you'll also see an attempt to sort of rebrand it as something that is cool, because sometimes ruggedness can be cool. I mean, people really like the Apple Watch Ultra, even though that that was made for divers and like Arctic explorers, at least according to Apple's marketing, but what we usually see are people that are urban explorers, and they explore the route from their work or their place of school and back home. That is the main thing, which is also why people use SUVs, because they really need that four-wheel drive for when there are leaves on their driveway. But if you like the aesthetic and if you are one that is destined to go further, you will need the protection that these UAG covers offer. All of them, for instance, are made in these really, really cool shock-absorbent frames, meaning that they are both giving, meaning that they can absorb and redistribute power from a shock when you drop it in the entire frame. They all have raised camera lenses, meaning that it won't damage the lens if you drop it straight on its back, so that is good. They all have these air-soft corners, again, so that they can redistribute a shock throughout, which is great. They all utilize military drop testing to make sure that it is as rugged as they say that they are, but most importantly, it has something which reignites, which basically reinstates something that Apple themselves omitted from the 16E, because I speak of this as an entry into the ecosystem, but they omitted the MagSafe coils. The cool thing is that there are Qi wireless charging coils in here, just without the MagSafe magnetic attachment, meaning that if you put this inside a UAG cover, now I won't be able to do it because it's so rigid, but the point is that if you decide to do it, you will reinstate the MagSafe coil and it will charge. It will just charge slower, for instance, than MagSafe allows."

"I think that's 15 watts and this will charge it less than that, but the point is, now this is usable with MagSafe. That is quite a feat, if you ask me, and it's really cool that accessory makers like UAG can basically give the phone central functionality that was lost on the design table when Apple made the thing. That is really nice."

"So obviously it comes in some really outlandish design aesthetics. So you have something like this, which is a bit more, mainly due to these grooves here, but it also, by the way, raises the drop testing. This is raised to 5.5 meters up from four meters, I believe. This is called the Pathfinder, but you can go up to the crazy Monarch Pro, which raises it again to 7.6 meters or 25 feet. Now, obviously this is a Hulk, but some people, well, UAG has been around for a while, so obviously there are people out there, maybe actual explorers, that needs this kind of protection and likes to look at their phone and see and identify visually, this will take a fall if it happens to happen. So that is, I think, worth something."

"So there is this full range, and again, while this is still unmistakably UAG with these lines and it is a little more subdued, a little less safe, of course, but a little less subdued.
And I think the one thing that I really like about it is, for one, there's an incredibly raised edge around, because the drop that usually kills phone screens is this. But then, if that happens, there is a lot of material here in between the surface area that it hits and the screen. And furthermore, they've also added these really sort of springy, sort of plastic raisements to the buttons, meaning that they're so satisfying to press, even more than without the cover. That is really cool. So, if you've found a UAG cover that fits you, or you may just be looking for the protection that these offer, they're on sale now. Thank you so much for watching, see you on the next one."
