When you buy an Apple product, what you're buying is essentially an entryway into an ecosystem of products which are both made by Apple, but also not made by Apple."
"And that is the main draw for a lot of people.
You can have the AirTags, where you can automatically track things that are of importance to you.
Also all of your Apple units can be tracked using the Find My app.
Your messages, through iMessages, being tracked on your MacBook and your phone and your watch and your iPad."
"You use the WLB chip to scan and again track different things and you use MagSafe to charge your items.
Now a lot of manufacturers out there basically make MagSafe accessories almost exclusively.
12South isn't among those, but they do make a lot of MagSafe accessories and they've done some really, really cool sort of trio chargers in the past."
"They've also done travel chargers in the past, but this, the Butterfly SE, seems like the culmination of the MagSafe journey that began all the way back with like iPhone 12 and has again reached its absolute peak with this.
Again, it's called the Butterfly SE and it is, I don't know if you can tell, but this little puck, which is 6cm wide, 2.35cm high and weighs 119g, can charge your phone and your watch at the same time and it fits in like a chest pocket of a shirt."
"It is so light and so small and so clever that it completely blows everything else out of the water.
No one that I've been able to see has been able to make them this small, but there is a lot of utility here, even though that it is this petite."
"So it has this little sandwich design.
There are strong magnets holding these sides together so it won't accidentally flop open.
Once it is open, because it only takes a little bit of force, there is this leather-rubber combination strap here, which keeps everything in place."
"Now before we go on, there is actually a really cool little functionality where you can do and it will attach to the magnets on the opposite side so that when you are charging your phone, you can basically use it as a kickstand, which I think is a rather neat little idea, meaning that it can sort of stand tilted and use this little as a kickstand to consume content or something like that."
"So, when you have it flopped open, I should say that it does not come with its own power brick.
So you will need that.
You get a USB Type-C cable and there is a USB Type-C port there, and it demands I think around 30 watts, but the point is, you probably are carrying around a USB Type-C based charger for your iPad, for your laptop, even non-Macbook laptops."
"Every laptop uses a USB Type-C charger these days.
So most chances are that you have one already, and I don't think it's as big of a deal now as it has been in the past because the entire point of this is petiteness so that when the package comes like this, you don't really lament the fact that there isn't a power brick."
"You supply one yourself.
So you undo it where it is that you're going, you supply power through there, and then your phone will connect through here using MagSafe.
Lovely."
"There is a little landing pad here to tell you when the magnets align, but then again, this is almost so small that it can't be any smaller because this is the circumference of the MagSafe coils on your phone.
And then over here, you can either put your watch just face down or you can use it as a sort of a nightstand and then have it face up because then even in dark while it's charging, it'll tell you the time, the weather conditions, whatever it is that you've set your nightstand mode on your watch to be."
"If you are a Android user, well, fear not because sure, you won't be able to use this because this is a proprietary Apple Watch fast charging compliant little port here, but this is actually Qi 2 enabled, meaning that once Android manufacturers get their shit together, they start implementing the new Qi 2 standard, which is basically a successor to the original Qi wireless charging protocol that we've seen for a decade now."
"Once that's in place, this will attach magnetically like with MagSafe to Android phones.
Sure, you won't be able to use this, but still, it's nice of 12 South to include it.
Over here, it charges basically, you might think, well, when it's so small and can't vent heat, obviously it's going to be charging slowly."
"No, 15 watts on this, which I think is the fastest that MagSafe can charge.
And over here, it's called Apple Watch fast charging, which is five watts.
But then again, I'm pretty sure that this is the limit of what these charging protocols can do."
"So look at this incredible little thing.
It's expensive.
I think it's like more than a hundred euros, but this is such an awesome thing to have in your bag or in your pocket to make sure that you can charge wherever it is you are and with so little hassle."
