We've got our hands on Xiaomi's latest smartwatch and also a brand-new and stylish band to take the device's appearance to the next level.
"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look.
We received a large box filled with Xiaomi's brand new product launches not too long ago, and they've really been busy over there because there are two new tablets with accessories, there's a brand new flagship smartphone in several tiers, and then obviously they've also refreshed their smartwatch lineup."
"Now this is sort of the main course, it is the Xiaomi Watch 4S, and well at first glance it is very weird to find this rainbow bezel around here, but apart from that the darkened sort of stainless steel that they have going on in the watch casing alongside this pretty sporty band does at the very least means that it's not boring in any sense of the word, and there is some good points there, but I should stress right off the bat that even though this looks with the menu here that it is going to be a Wear OS-esque watch, it is not."
"This is another watch that drives Xiaomi's own Hyper OS framework, meaning that it does not have an app store or an app collection per se, and conversely it also has very long battery life.
So the question is, is what it offers out of the box enough to make you say, well I want this for 200 euros rather than a Pixel watch for around double that."
"So first and foremost, two weeks of battery life, five minutes of charging gets you enough juice for two whole days of use, and that is not with some battery saving mode turned on.
No, this is the full Monty, all of its features for two weeks on a single charge."
"That is just impossible in Wear OS land.
It's also very much impossible in Apple watch land, I should stress.
Now it has a digital crown, and that digital crown is active, meaning that you can use it to scroll the interface as you can see here."
"The screen is a 1.43 inch AMOLED display.
It peaks at around 1500 nits, which is quite good, particularly for something more budget friendly, and it will regularly do 1500 nits and it will peak at 2200, which is like flagship level."
"Really cool.
Overall, what that amounts to is a pixel density of around 326 PPI, very nice, and as I said, the casing is an aluminium alloy frame, and it comes in this black one, it also comes with a silver one, and then you can choose to get this rainbow effect if you want."
"I should also stress that if you buy one and you don't like the rainbow-ish bezel, then you can switch it out with a different one, and so can you with the straps.
It seems to me, as I look at it, that you have the regular 22mm lug stamp here, meaning that it should be able to use any 22mm lug that you have."
"That's nice.
It's lovely when these kinds of companies adhere to industry standards.
Now, obviously with this kind of watch, it is mainly meant for sleep tracking, sports and workout modes, and very rudimentary notification support alongside some sort of personal features like interchangeable watch faces, etc."
"So what you do get is you have blood oxygen levels, you have a stress sensor, you have sleep monitoring, you have 150 sport modes, individual sport modes, including a personal running coach, and it uses a dual-frequency GPS built into the watch.
All of this is really cool."
"It even has something like fall detection and pro-skiing mode if you're the kind of alpine sort of people that do that regularly.
All of this is yours for €200, which I think is very nice.
If you think that is too steep, you can also buy this."
"This is very different, obviously.
But in one review that I read about this, it's the SmartBand 9 Pro, and it is very much like the operative word here is band rather than watch.
And the reason for that is that this is mainly meant for that fitness that I spoke about earlier."
"So this has almost the same 150 workout and sport modes.
It is 5ATM water-resistant, meaning that you can take it diving.
And it also uses standard 22-millimeter lugs, but not standard in that traditional sense.
It uses the same lug system, but it has an Apple Watch slide-in mechanism."
"I can try and basically show you here.
That means that these are quick access, but they are proprietary, meaning that the one that you get in the box, which is this leather TPU mushy thing, which I don't really like.
Well, then you're going to have to buy direct ones from Xiaomi, which is a bit annoying, to be honest with you."
"I do think maybe I've spoken too soon.
This was not part of the spec sheet.
Ha-ha! You can remove it like this and insert your own standard 22-millimeter lug system."
"That is very cool.
So I take that back.
There are quick latch systems, but you can just attach your own to it, which is awesome.
Now, this is much cheaper than this."
"I saw this for around 50 euros.
So it is a whole different ballgame in terms of what you can expect for that kind of money.
And you do get a fully-fledged HyperOS UI, which obviously isn't as pretty and obviously won't have the same kind of support for a broad range of apps like on this."
"But still, for around $50 or 50 euros, it is really cool.
And if there was one thing that I saw in other press coverage, they lament the fact that this bigger screen means that the price is higher, whereas I would argue that 50 US dollars or 50 euros is actually really, really not a lot of money, particularly for a full smartwatch experience."
"Whether or not it delivers on that, well, we're going to have to see in our full review of both of these.
So stay tuned for more.
See you on the next one."
"Bye."
