This microphone and mixer combination are ideal for those who are looking for cost-conscious but professional and great sounding audio.
"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quiz.
It's very rare, by the way, that we get to welcome a brand new company.
Not just the first time that we've taken a personal look at products from a new company, but that a new company has sprouted up, built R&D'd and built mass-produced units that they then send to us, which is always nice when there are increased competition in the marketplace."
"And in this particular case, well, this is Beacon, and Beacon has decided that they want to deliver studio quality for everyone, which involves making pretty hardcore audio equipment, which is both price-wise and usability-wise within reach of the regular user.
So have they succeeded?
Well, we will tell you in a full review very soon, but this little quick look here, we'll take a look at this, which is the Beacon mic."
"It's nice that they didn't choose to go with more advanced naming schemes than that.
This is the Beacon mic, and it looks very simple.
It utilizes some pretty cool materials as well.
This is heavy, by the way, and I should also stress that, yes, it's not a mistake."
"There is no stand that comes with the Beacon mic.
It assumes that you have a boomer arm yourself or a stand, and then it uses standard industry threading, meaning that it's easy to attach to said arm if you want to use it.
Now, this is €290, which is, by the way, not for everyone."
"That is pretty expensive, but you do get a lot for your money.
It's a USB-C type broadcast microphone with obviously a built-in pop filter that you can see.
There is no real focus on RGB lighting except this tiny strip here around, which obviously is an LED ring."
"Beacon makes a big deal out of saying that this is completely software-free, true plug and play.
So you have free software, but you don't need it.
You can use third-party software to control most of the usability aspects of the microphone, and you don't need a piece of software at all if you just want to plug it in and utilize, well, whatever it is that you want with it."
"There is integrated filters, compressors, equalizers, expander gates, noise suppressions, and a DAC all built in, which is quite nice as well.
There's also onboard adaptive noise suppression, which is aimed at removing background noise entirely, meaning that it will do that all by itself."
"It also has an integrated headphone amp, which is quite fantastic as well.
In terms of the actual recording quality, it supports 32-bit or 96 kHz audio resolutions, and it even supports the professional flow format that allows for completely unclipped audio if that's what you want."
"Now, you could buy this for €290, or you could buy it with one of these.
This is called the MixCreate, it's essentially a mixer and audio controller that uses this drag-and-drop interface.
We've kind of seen this before in competing products."
"It uses a drag-and-drop interface and has four physical knobs here as well that controls a main audio stream that has a substream as well via software.
This software works with PC, and it also works natively with Mac, which is actually something that you would be surprised to know isn't available broadly across all sort of microphone and mixer brands."
"So that is really nice to see, even here from the get-go.
You can route different audio sources together, and it's done in a simple checkbox menu.
There's a pre-made audience mix, which provides EZO stereo output for OBS, YouTube, and Streamlabs if that's what you want."
"And there is also a Beacon app here, which allows for personal listening devices that can be easily swapped between.
So that is if you want to mix and match yourself.
All really cool stuff."
"I will say that this does not have the same build quality or extravagant material choice as the mic itself, but still, it's a cool little extra thing to have this amount of screen real estate, these amount of sort of adaptable buttons and knobs to control your mix on the fly, and the more information you have as a user, which does not take up the main portion of your screen, the better, I would say."
"It's a lesson that's been learned by many companies in the past, including Elgato.
So it's nice to see.
It genuinely is.
So for much more on Beacon, we hope this is the start of a fruitful collaboration."
"So Kim will be doing full reviews of both of these.
So stay tuned for that.
See you on the next one."
