EA all but confirms that the game has been a commercial failure.
"Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of GRTV News, today we don't usually talk about these kinds of things on GRTV News but this was quite a surprising one all the same, we're focusing in on the new PlayStation Plus games that are coming in March, I know it doesn't sound that exciting but when you see what headlines this it will really really surprise you, so in fact instead of me waffling on let's just dive right on in and talk about it because this one really shocked me. Dragon Age The Veil Guard is free with PlayStation Plus next week, so along with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Cowabunga Collection and Sonic Colors Ultimate, so Electronic Arts has made it abundantly clear that Dragon Age The Veil Guard is a massive commercial failure, now they're desperately trying to make more people aware of the game and at least get as many players as possible, we write that because Dragon Age The Veil Guard will be the biggest game joining PlayStation Plus Essential on Tuesday, not that we're complaining about the rest of the trio as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Cowabunga Collection and Sonic Colors Ultimate are also worth adding to your collection. All three will place Payday 3, High and Life and Pac-Man World Repack on the 4th of March, so you still have time to get the latter three."
"So yes, Dragon Age The Veil Guard is headlining PlayStation Plus and as well it should be said that when we say it's headlining PlayStation Plus editions, this isn't like it's coming to the PlayStation Plus, I can never remember the name of the tiers, but like the most expensive one where you can play the game as part of like the almost Game Pass Lite subscription."
"These three games are the ones that you get for the most basic tier of PlayStation Plus and you can just add them to your collection and keep them forever assuming you have a PlayStation Plus account. As Eric puts in the news piece there, it's basically a complete firm confirmation that EA is completely done with this game now and that it's been a failure beyond belief for them. Which I, again, I understand that it cost them a lot of money to make and I understand that it took them a long time to make as well, it went through a lot of different iterations over the years from being called like the Dread Wolf and supposedly having sort of multiplayer and live elements to it to becoming The Veil Guard and being more single player focused or completely single player focused. But it doesn't really feel like EA ever really gave this game a chance to thrive or to stand on its own feet."
"You know, it sold I think like 1.5 million copies or something within its first month, but for EA it wasn't enough, they wanted more and I don't know how it's sold ever since because it's a game that EA doesn't really talk about a whole lot. But the fact that it's on PS Plus, on the most basic tier and it's coming in early March to that service."
"The game launched I think on Halloween, on October 31st and it was like, you know, big massive RPG, Bioware RPG, really full priced game. So it does sting a little bit that this is where we are with this game and every time I ever talk about the way this game's gone and the way EA's treated it and how they've been completely cutthroat with it, it really does make me think that Bioware has one chance left with Mass Effect. It's no longer this thing like, can we assume that's the case? To me, it's completely the case now. The way they're treating Dragon Age The Veil Guard, if Bioware do not knock it out of the park with Mass Effect 4, Mass Effect 5, whatever you want to call it, you know, depends whether you want to call Mass Effect Andromeda the fourth game or, you know, make this, I don't know, however you want to name it. But the upcoming Mass Effect game, if it doesn't do incredibly well and if it doesn't get into good shape relatively soon as well, I think that's another thing we've got to talk about because I don't think they're going to let Bioware take eight years to make the next, well, this Mass Effect game. If it doesn't come out well, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the last nail in the coffin almost for Bioware. But we'll stay tuned and we'll see how it goes. But the key thing to note is if you haven't played Dragon Age The Veil Guard, it's coming to PlayStation Plus in early March. And if you have played it, if you did pay for it, well, sucks to be you."
"Sucks to be me because I did as well, but it is what it is. But yeah, that's all the time I have in today's episode of GeoTV News, but I'll be back now tomorrow for the next one of the week. So until then, thank you for watching. I'll see you in the next one.
Take care, everyone."
