Fallen Aces is a fresh first person puncher with a comic style to it and during The Mix in not-Noir LA we caught up with bat-holding lead designer Trey M. Powell to learn more about their very first game.
"All right, we're in The Mix presents Guerrilla Collective and Feels very menacing that you are holding that bat next to me Guys around here, you know, but you know guys you look amazing in this disguise What is it all about?
So, you know the game takes place in like, you know, the 1940s kind of setting, you know So, you know, we all kind of dress up and get the vibe, you know, we're a bunch of mafia guys, you know So, you know want to get that, you know that feeling, you know Are you guys the Fallen Aces?
Sure. Yeah, who's the protagonist?
Well, this guy over here voices the protagonist, but you play as a private detective He's on a case. You gotta figure out, you gotta get to the bottom of it. What can you tell us about Precisely the story? We of course all know and love L.A. Noire, which was Set in L.A. Of course. What can you tell us about the game? It's a first-person game. What's the story about?
So there's a group called the the Aces that Protected the city and they're all being killed off mysteriously. So you as a private detective had to figure out What's going on and the mob doesn't quite like that. So, you know, they want you dead How do you..."
"How do you deal with it gameplay-wise? You're a first-person. What are you doing?
Are you combating? Are you solving puzzles? Solving like mysteries? What are you doing actually?
So yeah, you do quite a bit. So it is a first-person Melee game, you know, you have a lot of You know your fists, but you can also pick up just random objects in the world like bats Wrenches, trash cans, stuff like that. We have a variety of guns that you can use But you can also if you don't want to punch guys, you can sneak around and use stealth. So there's that option There are some clues that you can find in the game so you can kind of do some investigative stuff We kind of have a little bit of everything there And what is this about the art style and inspirations behind this game? Is it all of I mean, it's cartoony So what was the source of inspiration for that art style?
The inspiration behind the art style is just a lot of like old-style like detective comics and stuff like that And how do you guys work on that? Is this your first work?
How did you guys build it? Is it on Unity? What can you tell us about that? So yeah, this is my first game I've ever made We use the Unity engine to make it We're kind of going for a retro look so we kind of are pushing towards making it look like that but yeah Just the regular old Unity engine. When are we going to be able to play the Fallen Aces?
That'll be next week. Next week already on which platform?
PC for right now. We might look in the consoles later Thank you so much for your time. Good luck with the release. It's around the corner looks fantastic Hey, thank you. Thank you very much. Don't punch me, please"
