It's said to be more costly than Shenmue.
"Hi everyone and welcome back to another episode of GRTV News.
Today we're going to be talking a little bit more about the cancellation of Hyenas because a new report has come out which has given us a little bit more information as to this game."
"And it's quite a surprising bit of information as well because it states that Hyenas was Sega's most expensive game ever and yet they still decided to cancel it.
So with that being the case let's dive on in.
Report Hyenas was Sega's most expensive game ever but this didn't prevent it from getting axed before it was even released."
"Late last month it was revealed that Creative Assembly and Sega had decided to cancel Hyenas a shooter that we compared to both Payday and Apex Legends after we got to play it at Gamescom.
At the time we didn't get a whole lot of details about the cancellation but Volund and VGC have plenty of details to share about the whole thing which includes things like poor management a mismanaged game engine switch unwillingness to take any risks and a general lack of direction."
"But there is another thing that stands out most in the report as it turns out that Hyenas was Sega's most expensive game ever including Shenmue which for a long time was the most expensive game ever by Sega.
An anonymous developer says I forgot to mention that Hyenas was Sega's biggest budget game ever."
"Towards the end there were people from Sega Japan more or less permanently in the UK office.
This has never happened the whole time I've worked at CA.
They occasionally come to visit and check how the game was looking but as I said previously generally hands off."
"Shenmue cost 70 million dollars to develop and if Hyenas was even more expensive that means it's a serious candidate to be the most costly video game shutdown of all time.
So it's interesting to look at the way this is handled.
If anyone you know if you had the chance to check out any of the betas of Hyenas you'd probably look at the game the same way that I did when I had a chance to play it in that it kind of felt a bit all over the place."
"You know it was it didn't really feel like all the different parts were gelling together quite well.
Now you hear this report and you see that there's a poor management allegations of poor management mismanaged game engine unwillingness to take any risks and a general lack of direction on top of the fact that Sega was just seemingly pumping money into it with just like just do what you want with it."
"It's a lot of different things that are quite concerning with the way that Hyenas was handled here especially from a developer like Creative Assembly who has quite a an elite pedigree and has for a long time been a very sort of prominent and proficient developer.
But again I'd be surprised if this is the last we hear about this."
"This is a very high profile last minute cancellation.
You don't get many like this and we're going to probably see the impact that this has on Sega and Creative Assembly for weeks and months to come probably even years to come.
So as more information about this whole situation comes out and develops I will be sure to keep you updated."
