Last month the Winds of Magic expansion for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 was revealed, and after publishing a preview earlier this month, we managed to catch-up with Mats Andersson from Fatshark at the 2019 Game Developer Conference (GDC) to talk about the DLC.
During the interview, we got to talk about how exactly these 'winds' affect the gameplay and how they factor into the future of Vermintide 2. "Every wind adds a unique mutator, a gameplay changer to the weave you're playing that completely changes the way you have to approach things at its core," he told us.
"We can keep on expanding with the more narrative driven story that has more content in it. Or we can try to cater to something more challenge focussed, that is more gameplay focussed, that has less exposition and narrative in it but is more about experience and specifically about mastery of gameplay," he continued.
So, is this expansion all about endgame and creating a harder experience for the more committed player? Andersson also spoke about the other features coming with Winds of Magic, which should elevate the gameplay experience for newer players. "Given the work we are doing with the weaves, it's not only just repainting levels or introducing set mutators, we are doing an overhaul of the difficulty and timings of pretty much everything in the core comic loop, in order to provide that challenge".
Winds of Magic currently doesn't have a release date, but Andersson did say the team is hoping to have it released by the end of summer.
Will you be playing Winds of Magic when it launches?
