Valve has revealed new details on the 2019/20 Dota 2 season that will be kicking off following the end of The International last month, including five Majors and five Minors in the circuit for the best Dota 2 teams in the world.
All the available details on each event can be found at the link above, and points can be earned by all 16 teams in the Major and all eight teams in the Minor, as well as all teams from regional qualifiers.
Majors are worth 15,000 points, with Minors worth 660, and those who win top prize at the Majors get $300,000 USD as well as 4,850 of these points. Those who win Minors, however, get $72,000 and 140, although they'll only get points for the event in which they placed better, since they also get a spot in the Major.
Points are now earned by teams too, and not players, with points not transferring if a player changes teams. The top 12 teams receive direct invites to The International next year, and one per region will also be determined via regional qualifiers, which points determine an invite to as well.
"In addition to qualifying via Regional Qualifiers, the winner of the preceding Minor is automatically qualified to the Major. This team will earn either the DPC points for their Minor victory, or their placement in the Major, whichever is greater," Valve adds.
As for subs, a team must play with at least four of its five registered players in qualifiers, and any team that uses a sub during the LAN portion of a tournament has a 40% penalty on points earned. Also, a team that removes a player after securing a slot at a Minor or Major will have a 20% deduction to the points obtained as well, on top of the normal penalty.
"Teams can drop players up until the beginning of the final Minor. At that point teams can no longer release players from their roster. However, teams can still add players if they don't have a full set of 5 up until 12PM PST the day after the last Major concludes, at which point all teams will be considered locked and TI Invites will occur," Valve continues.
