Squad, the large-scale team-based shooter from Offworld Industries, is still chugging its way through Early Access on Steam, with the devs continuing to add new features at regular intervals. The latest addition is a map that sees the studio turning its focus to urban warfare. Al Basrah is a returning favourite for longtime fans of the game (back when it was called Project Reality and was a mod for Battlefield 2), and the emphasis is on closed spaces and enterable buildings. You can check out the new/old/updated map in the trailer and description below, and if you want to try it for yourself, there's a free weekend kicking off on Thursday and ending on Monday.
This map gives Squad its first significant dive into urban combat with an expanded urban footprint and a wider surrounding play area. With buildings as large as 6 stories high and completely enterable we expect to give a hard shake to the US Forces dominance meta, as Insurgents can be anywhere in the city. 100s of windows potentially bristling with RPG rounds ready to spoil the infidels' day.
