At MineCon this year Jens Bergensten, lead creative designer at Mojang, shared new information about what fans can expect in Minecraft in 2018, where he announced the so-called Update Aquatic that will lead us to the bottom of the sea, with some nautical elements alongside it.

Among the most obvious things the Update Aquatic adds is new kind of vegetation and fish, such as tropical fish (clownfish and puffer fish) and common salmon. Mojang is also working on warm and cold biomes which will lead to expanded coral reefs and even icebergs to improve Minecraft's environments even further. On top of this the studio is working to properly simulate water physics, which turns out to be rather difficult to implement, Bergensten admitted.

To support the active part of the community the lead designer teases shipwrecks, treasure hunts (with nice dolphins who guide you to them somehow), and a new Trident weapon. This spear should be used as a melee one mainly, or you can throw it, and it even returns to us magically once we upgraded it.

You can see the full clip of Update Aquatic's reveal here and find out for yourself how to build up your own aquarium and how bubble columns work. This is good news for fans, especially since the Super Duper Graphics Pack has been delayed, but we haven't yet got a release date for this new water-themed update.

Does this sound appealing to you?
