As announced by Ubisoft in a new earnings report, their seafaring title Skull & Bones won't be releasing this year, and has actually been delayed to the 2019-20 window.

The nautical adventure was announced last E3 and we haven't seen the game since, but the delay will allow Ubisoft "more time to develop" Skull & Bones to deliver "players an even more engaging experience". Ubisoft Singapore, the studio developing the game, took to the official Ubisoft forums to shed some more light on the delay, also confirming that Skull & Bones will be shown at E3 2018 next month.

"Our goal remains as clear as ever: build a shared systemic open ocean that captures the essence of the pirate fantasy and is full of activities. We aspire to create a game where the act of attacking and robbing ships at sea - and where every single decision you make - requires you to carefully assess the risk versus reward," they write.

"We also are building a world rich in lore and stories, where you'll come across memorable characters and have the canvas to create your own stories. Letting you set your own objectives and to take down your rivals on your own terms is key to the experience we want to create."

Skulls & Bones is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Did you like the look of it when we saw it last year?

REVIEW. Written by Ben Lyons

There is potential to explore in places, but there are also far too many holes for this ship to make it back to port.
