Alongside the other games The Coalition announced during Microsoft's E3 Press Conference was Gears Tactics, a turn-based strategy game that sees you take control of a squad of COG soldiers.

Moving the Gears universe over to a completely different genre, Tactics will see you control a team of Gears as they hunt for a Locust monster capable of wiping out entire cities.

Set 12 years before the original game it seems as though Splash Damage is keen to explore deeper stories within the Gears universe. Described as 'a true Gears of War PC experience' it does have somewhat of an Xcom vibe to it.

Although they describe it as their 'take on the classic turn-based strategy genre' they did also suggest it would feature massive boss battles similar to the classic Gears of War series.

Gears Tactics does not yet have a release, but The Coalition did say they'll be sharing more details about the game soon. We'll keep you up to date as we find out more.

"Every move is exciting and there are always multiple options, and we suspect it will have an impact on how the genre develops in the future."
