Instead of turning up at this year's E3 to show off the campaign portion of Call of Duty, Treyarch switched things up and instead went to the event and revealed the multiplayer that's coming in Black Ops 3.
During the show we had a chance to speak to game design director David Vonderhaar (which you can see here), as well as catch up with multiplayer director Dan Bunting.
In our interview with Bunting we were told about the new "guns up" philosophy that the studio are using to refine the gameplay experience for online multiplayer, explaining how players can expect more fluidity and additional control over the way that they interact with the world around them.
"We wanted to really keep players in the fight the entire time, and we have this philosophy, we call it "guns up" philosophy, so your guns always going to be up for every movement, you're going to stay engaged in the fight at all times," Bunting told us.
"We also built the movement system around omnidirectional control, so if you are moving to the left and you're in a gunfight with somebody and you hit a piece of cover, you're going to be able to mantle over that piece of cover fluidly, stay in the fight, and maintain control the entire time.
"So it's all about giving players more control, removing those barriers that slow down combat, give them command over their interaction with the environment, let them use the environment as a tool, feel that fluidity, chain all of the movements together, so you can really just move around the map very fast, very fluid and get into position, and then engage in your combat in the very classic feel of boots on the ground head to head engagements."
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is heading to PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on November 6. The beta for the Xbox One and PC version of the shooter was recently confirmed, and a beta is also due to hit PS4 (details here).
