Todd Howard to get Legend Award at Gamelab Barcelona
Bethesda visionary to get the award this month.
Gamelab is getting back to its double-award format with this year's 2018 edition, as after the announcement of the Honor Award going to interactive narrative expert Amy Hennig, the organisers have just revealed that it's none other than Todd Howard getting the Legend Award.
Howard, who currently holds the executive producer position at Bethesda Game Studios, will therefore see his career recognised once again (and he's also expected to share his vision in a panel) in the conference that's getting ready to kick off in Barcelona on June 27. Howard will thus join the select group of devs and execs who have got the Legend Award in past editions, including Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yū Suzuki, Toru Iwatani, and Mark Cerny, the latter of which is back this year as both speaker and as part of the event's brand-new Advisory Board.
Todd Howard joined Bethesda in 1994 and has been designing role-playing games and 3D open worlds ever since. His career's highest point came at conceiving the modern take on popular RPG series The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, when the studio chained a series of instant-classics such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Fallout 4, with Howard at the helm of the game's design and as director of the latter three. His attendance in Barcelona is to happen right after Fallout 76's world reveal at E3 2018, with the game being the latest take on the post-apocalyptic franchise.
A usual suspect in both international conferences and worldwide recognition awards, Howard will get Gamelab's Legend Award after, according to the organisation, being "honored as one of the world's top game creators including The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame, the Game Developers Conference Lifetime Achievement Award, Germany's Lara of Honor, and the New York Game Critics Legend Award."
You may want to meet Howard and listen to his words in person by registering for Gamelab 2018. As official media partner, Gamereactor will try and ask Howard some of the questions you'd like to ask him in the comments section below.
