There's a battle royale island in AC Odyssey

Multiplayer seems to be something we won't see a return to Assassin's Creed games anytime soon, but that's not to say that the latest game, Odyssey, doesn't feature its own take on the popular Battle Royale concept, albeit in singleplayer fashion.

On an island called Melos (part of the Obsidian Islands), the main character will find himself or herself in an event called "The Battle of One Hundred Hands" where a large portion of the island is sectioned off and works as a battleground where it's a free-for-all fight until only two combatants remain. What's neat is that this set up isn't the same as the large-scale Conquest Battles that you can trigger in each region as here there's room to sneak a bit, fire arrows from a distance and look at enemies fighting each other only to jump in and finish the job. We quite enjoy using our overcharge bow attack from afar to lob massive area of effect damage at a group of pre-occupied enemies for instance. There's a bit of a questline prior that sees you train with another challenger, who is also a keen romance option. We're not going to spoil the specifics of the questline, but it's a good example of the unique side content you'll find in Odyssey. This regional content is quite late game (around level 40), but isn't directly tied to any of the main story threads.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is due out on Friday, October 5, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One and if you haven't already read it, we recommend you read our review.

It's a relief to know that at least there's a bit of Battle Royale in Assassin's Creed Odyssey too, isn't it?
