Spoilers are abound for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 if you've not yet played it. Want to get out now while you can?

Towards the end of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, it's revealed that the world you're living in, the one you're fighting to defend, has been created. Not by a god, not by the Paintress, but by the mind of a young man who is no longer alive. The real Verso, who died in a conflict between the Writers and Painters, two supernatural factions that can bring their expressions to life quite literally. This twist comes as quite the shock the first time you experience it, but Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's lead writer, says it was always part of the plan to have these factions in place.

"When we came up with the premise and the idea of painters, it was very natural to also think about the other arts, the other art forms, music, writing, sculpture, all the different ways in which people express themselves emotionally, philosophically," Svedberg-Yen said at Celsius 232. "So yes, it's definitely something we sort of was already, we were already percolating in the back of our minds at that time."

Svedberg-Yen didn't go onto say whether this conflict would be elaborated upon in a potential sequel, but it certainly seems like a place where the door is left open for Sandfall Interactive to explore more if they wished.
