Developer Kylotonn and Bigben have announced that the new season of Esports WRC Powered by Hyundai - the esports competition for racing game WRC 7 - is starting today during the Monte Carlo Rally.

With 6,000 players getting involved last season - including winner Jon Armstrong who's an actual WRC 2 driver - expectations are high for this year. That's why Hyundai is getting involved again and providing a prize of a Hyundai i20 worth €20,000.

This is open to all who own WRC 7 on PC, PS4, or Xbox One, and points will be awarded during 12 online rounds between now and August. The 10 best results will be used to select the top eight players for a live grand finale, but there'll also be a teams championship with rosters of up to five players facing off simultaneously in the individual championships. Points scored by the three best drivers in the team will go towards the team's score, and this championship will mostly comprise of pre-selected teams known in virtual racing already.

Thrustmaster will provide equipment for the finale and will hold special events throughout the season, which is broken down as follows:

      January 24-27 - Monte Carlo
      February 14-17 - Sweden
      March 7-10 - Mexico
March 28-31 - Tour de Corse
April 11-14 - Wales Rally GB
      April 25-28 - Argentina
      May 9-12 - Catalonia
      May 30 - June 2 - Portugal
      June 13-16 - Sardinia
      July 11-14 - Australia
      August 1-4 - Finland
      August 22-25 - Germany

      Can you topple Jon Armstrong?
