The Thargoids are returning to Elite: Dangerous very soon

The Return is scheduled to happen later this month.

The Thargoids are about to make their return to Elite when Dangerous updates to version 2.4, with Frontier's community manager Edward Lewis confirming the news in a post on the studio's forum. The returning alien menace is set to arrive on September 26 as part of the ominously titled update, The Return.

"On launch day you'll be interacting with the most mysterious and deadly things you've encountered in the Elite Dangerous galaxy - the Thargoids," Lewis wrote. "Elite Dangerous 2.4 The Return will then continue to roll out with interactive narrative-based content emerging over the coming months."

There's a cinematic trailer below, and while there's plenty to get you in the mood, it doesn't give too much away, with Frontier keen on letting players discover what's happening on their own terms.
