It has been announced by id Software that the Quake Pro League will not be making a return in 2024, and that it has officially been shut down. As mentioned in a post on X, we're told that there are plans in place to explore "future opportunities for hosting competitions", but that the official league will not be continuing.

It was also noted that there will be efforts made to collaborate with community members and tournament organisers who are interested in hosting Quake events.

Considering the Quake Pro League has been on a downward trend for a while, it's not exactly a surprising announcement, but perhaps in the future we'll see something similar launched if Quake returns to its place at the top of competitive FPS esports.
