The latest sales figures of the Switch and the PS4 have been revealed, showing that Nintendo's most recent console is outselling the Sony titan in Japan. As reported by Famitsu (and brought to us by GamesIndustry.biz), the Switch is currently at a total of 8.13 million units sold in Japan, placing it just over the 8.09 million the PS4 has managed. These figures are quite impressive, especially since the Switch has been on the market for two years, compared to the five years the PS4 has been on sale for.
Overseas, however, the story is quite different. Sony's current-gen console is still dominating sales figures, sitting at approximately 92 million units sold, with the Switch has shifted around 35 million units.
As for the Switch's record, it is struggling to keep up with the momentum set by the DS and 3DS, which sold 16 million and 10 million units respectively after two years in Japan. However, at the moment it has sold more units than the 3DS and the DS in the US, although it does still fall behind the Wii.
How big can the Switch grow?
