The Last of Us: Part II reveal trailer not part of the game

Naughty Dog's Druckmann sets the record straight.

Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog revealed during the latest Game Maker's Notebook podcast from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) that the PSX 2016 reveal trailer of the highly anticipated The Last of Us: Part II will not be a part of the game itself. That may not be the most surprising news we ever got, but now it's official - the trailer was shown for atmospheric purposes only.

"The first trailer we showed kind of exists purely as an announcement. It's not a scene that takes place in the game," is what Druckmann said.

The controversial Paris Game Week trailer, on the other hand, was taken from an existing cut-scene that can be found in the game, the game director explained (scroll down to check that one out). Neither Sony nor Naughty Dog seems to back up from the brutal direction, they showed us before... You can hear the full episode right here. The Last of Us: Part II has not yet received a release date but is in development exclusively for PlayStation 4. Did you expect the meeting of Ellie and Joel to happen the way Sony showed us in the first PSX trailer?
