Two days ago Avalanche Studios, the developers of Just Cause 3 and Mad Max, were teasing that they'd reveal a new game this week. With them using the phrase "buck wild" we thought it might be a new The Hunter game. Turns out we caught the game right in our sights.
The game is called theHunter: Call of the Wild, and is a hunting experience set in a vast open world. Developer Expansive Worlds (a division within Avalanche Studios) set out to create the most immersive hunting experience ever. They are planning to do this by having complex animal behaviour, dynamic weather events, full day and night cycles, simulated ballistics, highly realistic acoustics, scents carried by a sophisticated wind system, and much more. We'll get to play around with all of these features in the 50 square miles of varied terrain has to offer. Ranging from wetlands and dense forests to lush valleys and open farm fields.
Obviously, a hunting game must have some nice weapons, and Call of the Wild seems to offer a nice variety to choose from. We'll get to play around with a range of rifles, handguns and bows that can be customised with scopes and different ammunition types.
We'll also get to developer our character by unlocking various skills and equipment. Learn how to use callers and scents, but above all else, study your prey: pay close attention to animal behaviour, traits and patterns of movement.
New to hunting? Not a problem. Intelligent systems will aid and assist to make sure you get the most out of your hunt, whether you're a hopeful novice or grizzled veteran.
In addition to its single player experience, theHunter: Call of the Wild will offer some multiplayer options as well. Join up to eight other players in cooperative and competitive modes. Enjoy a wide range of in-game challenges and events.
Sound interesting? If you're a streamer or youtuber you can get a spot in the closed beta running December 6 through December 9.
