It was in 2003, an era when platforming mascots were still considered crucial to every console success. Microsoft launched Voodoo Vince after several failures to create a mascot for the console, and this time they got it right. It was a lovely adventure for older gamers with soothing jazz music, a black sense of humour, lovely New Orleans bayou inspired enviroments and creative puzzles.
Unfortunately, the Xbox audience didn't care and Voodoo Vince was forgotten. Until now, that is, because he's making a comeback and it is the original developer Beep Industries that is making this happen.
The game will be called Voodoo Vince: Remastered and this time it will be available for both PC and Xbox One. It is basically the classic game with high definition graphics and it will launch sometimes early next year. Hopefully more people will doscover this charming little fellow this time so we can enjoy more adventures with him in the future.
The press release had the following statement from Clayton Kauzlaric, creator of the original game:
"I'm super excited to bring Voodoo Vince back. Backward compatibility was never possible due to the nature of our game engine, but the ID@Xbox program got me thinking about publishing an HD remastered version independently, with much of the game rewritten from the ground up to run on newer hardware. The folks at Microsoft have been amazingly supportive of the idea."
Below is a teaser trailer as well as some screenshots from the remastered edition.
