Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues, the medieval MMO that has been in Early Access for over two years yet still has largely flown under people's radars, is available to play for free until Thursday.
Until March 9, you can download a slightly restricted version of the game for free. You can't trade with other players, nor can you purchase or sell items through vendors. You can't own property, interact with public chests, interact with items on a plot or create ransom items when killing in PvP. You also can't play in Offline Mode. You can, however, experience everything else the game has to offer, and if you decide to buy the full version after participating in the trial, your character's stats and items will carry over. You can find the full list of limitations including the system requirements and a link to download the client here.
Shroud of the Avatar is currently awaiting its 40th update, and these content/balance drops happen on a monthly basis.
Below is an interview we did with Richard "Lord British" Garriott at last year's GDC Europe.
