The recently rebuilt Team SoloMid has looked unimpressive throughout the 2016 Spring Split, barely making it to the playoffs with a 9-9 record and a tied 5th place in the standings. That made their 3-1 win over Cloud9 in last week's quarterfinal quite the surprise, but that was nothing compared to the upset they made last night.

TSM were facing Immortals, a team that had so far destroyed all opposition and only dropped a single map throughout the Split, ending the regular season play with a 17-1 record and a playoff berth for the semifinals.

By all predictions, Team SoloMid should have been crushed, but instead the reverse happened. TSM pulled Immortals apart, both out-picking and out-playing the favourite team.

Immortals may have made things more difficult for themselves than necessary, choosing to forego tank picks in favour of damage-heavy compositions. In the second game they even ran three AD Carries, but TSM was having none of it.

TSM's superstar midlaner Søren "Bjerg" Bjergsen in particular gave a stand-out performance, ending up with a 20-2-20 KDA record for the whole series.

In the other semi-final this weekend, Counter Logic Gaming took out Team Liquid 3-2, meaning the finals will be a repeat of last years Summer Split finals where Team SoloMid and CLG also squared off.

That game will be played on Sunday at 20:00 BST / 21:00 CEST. The third place decider match between Team Liquid and Immortals is played on Saturday at 20:00 BST / 21:00 CEST.
