Last week, we finally got something official from Rockstar about when we'd see more of Grand Theft Auto VI. An extended look is set to arrive in just a few weeks, on the 27th of August. But, if you want to watch it right when it airs at 20:00 BST/21:00 CEST, then you'll have to watch the extended look via Netflix.
Speaking to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently, IGN asked about the Netflix "exclusivity" on the trailer. Zelnick described it as being Rockstar's decision, but he certainly seems to be excited about it either way. "I think Rockstar felt that a Netflix release would be a great way to show off the extended trailer. Six hours later it will be available on Rockstar's YouTube channel and I think ultimately on many other outlets. And I think this is an example of Rockstar trying new things and marketing the title and I hope there's much more to come," Zelnick said.
"I'm only going to say great things about Netflix. If you're not a Netflix subscriber, you definitely should be one. And as for the trailer itself, it's coming soon enough that I'll let you arrive at your own conclusion. I'm sure you're going to watch it because everyone is," he continued.
Over the weekend, there was a lot of discussion online about the Netflix "exclusivity" on the trailer. While there are hundreds of millions of Netflix subscribers already, there are also people who would love to see what GTA VI has on offer without having to pay a fee. The trailer does come out on YouTube, but by the time that happens, most of its content may already be online thanks to people sharing their thoughts who watched it on Netflix.
In recent years, Netflix has focused on streaming big events. Most of these related to sports, but in the case of Grand Theft Auto VI's extended look, it seems the event of the trailer's release will garner enough attention to warrant being on the same spot as Wrestlemania and the latest fights in the octagon.
