We've known for a while that Frogwares would be bringing The Sinking City to Nintendo Switch (they even revealed some gameplay on Nintendo's console not too long ago), and now they've announced that we can experience it on September 12... so next week.
A brand new trailer has been released to celebrate the occasion, and the studio makes clear that this is digital-only for now. Communications manager Sergey Oganesyan explained to us why this is:
"We initially wanted to do a physical release - we know lots of players prefer these - but we were eventually forced to put this off for now. We didn't want to take too long to release the game on the Nintendo Switch, but going into the logistics and distribution of physical editions would push the release back by months. Frogwares is self-publishing this version but we're not a big company and don't have the resources to handle such a complex process ourselves. So, we're focusing on the digital release first and might release a physical edition later."
Timed pre-order bonuses are included for those who want to get involved, and while the Standard version costs $49.99 USD, a Deluxe Edition is coming for $64.99. A quick glance at the product page also tells us there's a download size of 9072.28 MB.
"We did our best to optimize the game and ensure it runs at a stable 30 frames throughout. We also improved combat a bit to have more weight and feel. Weapons now have new gunshot sounds, improved recoil and new visual effects. We also did our best to improve the game from people's feedback. So things like crowd behavior and pedestrian AI has been tweaked along with all around additional levels of polishing and bug fixing," adds Serge Chervonnyi, game producer manager.
