Everyone's favourite piece of meat is heading back into the world of videogames with Super Meat Boy Forever splatting onto store shelves later in the month of April and we had talked a little bit about how Super Meat Boy has evolved since the launch of the first game back in 2010. Team Meat's CEO Tommy Refenes explained why Meat Boy and Bandage Girl are setting out on an adventure once again narrative-wise:

"Meatboy and Bandage girl have had a child, her name is Nugget and she's been kidnapped by Dr. Fetus because Dr. Fetus has not progressed in life at all". Apart from the addition of one small Nugget, there's also a major gameplay change coming to the now-series. "The game is still a Meat Boy game but it is two buttons, so he's always moving, he's always running". and that's not the only big addition either. "According to lore, your child's been kidnapped so now Meat Boy and Bandage Girl can attack, so they have a punch and they can kill enemies. Visually though, the replays are there, but they're a little different because you go through chunks. You'll go through a chunk and everybody will die and a whole bunch more will spawn from the next chunk because when you die you start at the beginning of chunk so that looks weird. When you hit a mushroom, it'll go flying, but in the replay, a bunch of them will go flying because it copies each instance of it".

When digging deeper into the two-button layout and what that will mean for the difficulty of the game, we got some answers that the players looking for a challenge will enjoy "with the two buttons it kind of lowers the barrier of entry so that anyone can play and we let you map it to anything, you can play it with your feet if you want, we don't care. (The two button layout has) allowed us to actually make the game a little harder because we've taken the twitch decision making away from you so you just focus on levels and reaction so I would say it's harder than the first one. We've added three difficulty ratings so we start at hard, we go to mean and then cruel is just cruel".

We also asked a little bit about the visuals in the game and Tommy told us about the studio's view on cutscenes: "We have like thirty minutes of cutscenes now because that's what you do in videogames, you have cutscenes. If the game flops, I can edit them all together and have a Meat Boy movie. One Netflix show's worth. One Netflix show of Meat Boy movie".
