Square Enix files trademark for "HD-2D"

The visual style of Octopath Traveler is something they're clearly proud of, although this doesn't mean we won't see it elsewhere.

Octopath Traveler was brought to the Nintendo Switch by Square Enix last year, a great game that was not only challenging but also looked lovely as well, using 2D elements to produce a retro feel. Well, just last week Square Enix filed an interesting trademark for something called "HD-2D", which all has to do with this style of game.

This style combines modern elements with older visuals to produce the iconic effect, and while some have speculated that this might mean a sequel is on the way, that's not necessarily the case. It also doesn't stop other people from using it, because it's not a patent.

Do you like Octopath Traveler's visuals?
