Spielberg's Halo mini-series may begin filming this autumn

It has been a long time since we've talked about the live-action TV series dedicated to Halo, the popular franchise created by Bungie and now developed by 343 Industries exclusively for Xbox. After a long period of inactivity, it seems that Showtime - the network producing the series - has finally got some interesting news to share with fans looking forward to its move to the small screen.

According to Production Weekly, Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg will start filming the project later this year, more precisely this autumn. Among the producers involved in the project, there are Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, and Alex Maggioni from Amblin Television. As reported by Showtime's president of programming, Gary Levine, this new Halo mini-series will not only be interesting to fans of the franchise, but should also attract interest from a much larger audience. In a recent statement reported by TV Guide, he said:

"[Halo] is absolutely still in development, still moving forward and I'm encouraged by what we've seen so far... It's still live action, and it will definitely satisfy the fans of Halo and I think also satisfy the drama audiences of Showtime."

It's very likely that the choice to start shooting in the autumn is due to the fact that Spielberg will finally be free from other commitments (starting with Ready Player One, the sci-fi movie based on the novel by Ernest Cline) so he can focus all of his energies on the project.
