Spider-Man's relationship with the rest of the Marvel world in the realm of films hasn't always been an easy one, as Tom Holland's version of the hero has only just been allowed to collaborate with his pals in the last few years, and now a new report from Deadline has thrown the hero's future into doubt once more.

This is because Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige isn't producing more Spider-Man films due to Disney and Sony being unable to reach new terms giving the former a co-financing stake, a dispute that has been taking place over the last few months. Sources also add that this has the potential to remove Marvel from any involvement in Spidey moving forwards.

With two more Spider-Man films in the works, Feige won't be helping with these, and director Jon Watts also doesn't have a deal for the next project either. The same report adds that Disney wanted a 50/50 co-financing arrangement between themselves and Sony, which Sony refused, and sources add that their counteroffer was also rejected by Disney.

The same report claims that Feige is a big fan of the hero, and would have continued to work on the franchise if a deal could have been reached, but Disney didn't want to continue with the current terms seeing Marvel receive in the range of 5% of first-dollar gross, according to the report.

Sony Pictures has since released a statement on the matter via Twitter:

"Much of today's news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige's involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney's decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film."

"We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him - including all their newly added Marvel properties - do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own."

"Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue."

Will you be sad to see Spider-Man leave the MCU?
