Sony considers European return after missing last Gamescom

Jim Ryan hints at plans for PlayStation's return to Europe.

Sony decided to skip press conferences at the last two editions of Gamescom, instead deciding to focus more on events either side of it, namely E3 last June, and its own PlayStation Experience event towards the end of the year.

During our recent sit down with global sales and marketing chief Jim Ryan, we asked if the company had any plans to return to European shores this year so as to show off their wares.

"We're just in the process of looking at that very carefully. We didn't do a European show last year," Ryan told us. We wondered if he thought that might have been a mistake, to which he replied:

"We made a really conscious decision to pile the content into E3 last year, and without giving anything away - cos I'd hate to do that to you of all people [laughs] - it would be nice to do something in Europe this year. So that's something we're looking at very carefully."

So there you have it. No official confirmation, but a big hint that Sony is considering returning to Europe in 2017. Might we see a renewed focus for PlayStation 4 and PSVR at Gamescom? What about showing something at Paris Games Week? We'll just have to wait and see.
