Sony has announced the Playstation Vita VT, a tiny console based on the PS Vita's architecture that connects to a TV and will be available in Japan on November 14.

The unit will have dimensions of 6 x 10cm, and will apparently cost 9,480 yen (around £60), although there should be a bundle available for 14,280 yen that includes a controller and an 8GB memory card. The console will support Vita and PSP games, and of course the Vita's promised PS4 cross-functionality. Gamers will also be able to use the Vita TV to play PS4 games on a second screen, if the TV connected to the PS4 is otherwise engaged.

The new device will come with a ready made back-catalogue of games, as it will be able to play PS Vita, PSP and PSOne titles, it will also let users take advantage of various video services, and it'll be compatible with the DualShock 3 controller. No word on when we'll see it on these shores though, but given how important the handheld market is in Japan, it's easy to see why Sony are focussing their initial efforts for PS Vita TV in that direction.
