Sonic Mania features the return of Competitive Mode

Presented via a new trailer and some screenshots.

Last week Sega announced Time Attack for Sonic Mania, and now it's time to reveal a Competitive Mode, a mode that long-term fans of the series may remember from the classic games.

Playable characters in this mode are Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and the winner is determined by measuring clear time, score, number of items collected, number of rings collected when clearing the level, and total number of rings collected throughout the level. You can adjust the rule set ahead of each match if, for instance, you want to match specific skills like collecting rings, so it's customisable too.,

Sonic Mania launches August 15 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and if you're interested in this Competitive Mode, check out the new trailer and screenshots down below. Is this a mode you remember?

REVIEW. Written by Claus Larsen

"Since the '90s there have been several attempts to revive Sonic, but even if some games have been good there's been little consistency."
