Sonic Mania brings back the Chemical Plant Zone

A familiar location from the Sonic games will reappear in Sonic Mania. An updated version of the Chemical Plant Zone, which we've seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic Generations, will be playable and also features an updated version of the music.

In the gameplay video below we can see Tails running through the iconic area, and Takashi Iizuka, the current head of Sonic Team, calls it his favourite level in the series:

"I wasn't working on Sonic games back then, but as a Sega employee I was playing it. Having that 45 degree angle where you're just running down and going faster and faster and faster just gave me goosebumps. So Chemical Plant Zone is one of those great speed zones."

Sonic Mania will come to the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on August 15, 2017.
