Activision has just announced Skylanders Trap Team, a new game that twists the formula that has established the series as one of the best-selling in the industry. The new game, which allows players to "pull characters out of the digital world into the physical world", is set to launch in Europe on October 10.
Using magical in-game traps, players will be able to pull villains out of the game, via a device called the Traptanium Portal. We'll also be able to hear the captured villains, and use tag-team gameplay as well as local co-op. The trailer below should offer some insight into what Activision are proposing.
"With Skylanders Trap Team, we're no longer just letting kids bring their toys to life inside the game anymore. This time, we're letting them pull their toys out of the game as well. We are confident this instalment of Skylanders will once again redefine what's possible at the intersection of the physical and virtual worlds," said Activision's Eric Hirshberg.
Expect new Trap Masters characters (and "reposed fan-favourite Skylanders characters"), and a selection of new villainous Skylanders, when the game gets released on PlayStation 3, PS4, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One (there'll also be a separate 3DS version of the game) in October. Pre-orders are now open.
