Yacht Club Games has done an incredible job of updating and adding new content to Shovel Knight, and it would seem that they'll never stop, as now they've given us a bunch of Shovel Knight related news. First of all, the game will now be called Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, and the reason for this is that they plan to release the added campaigns as stand-alone games on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Yes, that's right, Shovel Knight is coming to Nintendo's upcoming console.
They say that the reason for separating the campaigns is to make better entry points for different types of players, and make it cheaper for those who are just interested in one of the campaigns. If you already own Shovel Knight, your game will be automatically converted to a Treasure Trove, however, so this means that you'll still get the upcoming campaigns and updates free of charge.
This separation will also increase the price of Treasure Trove, so we advise that you to buy it now if you're interested in having the entire Shovel Knight experience. Just interested in the original knight's story? It will also be made available separately as Shovel of Hope.
Then there's the future content. They've also given us a small taste of what Body Swap Mode will look like when it launches with the Specter of Torment campaign this spring.
They couldn't give us new details about the upcoming local co-op mode, but said that it's still coming. On the opposite side of co-op is the competitive Battle Mode that is set to launch alongside the King Knight campaign later this year (except for the PS Vita and 3DS versions).
