Shanghai Dragons releases its remaining players and staff
Could this be a sign of things to come following Blizzard and NetEase's Chinese deal coming to a close.
The Overwatch League is in a bit of flux right now, as due to Blizzard and NetEase's long-running deal coming to an end, meaning most of the Californian developers title won't be sold and operated in the country, the question as to what will happen to the Chinese OWL teams has been posed.
If the OWL isn't broadcast in the country due to Overwatch 2 not being playable there, then surely the Chinese teams will have to relocate and potentially even rebrand, assuming a new deal isn't hammered out.
And this does seem like the direction things could be going, as now the Shanghai Dragons has released its entire remaining team (both players and coaches), meaning Kim "IZaYaKI" Min-chul, Lee "LIP" Jae-won, assistant coach Son "Kong" Jun-young, and head coach Moon "Moon" Byung-chul are all out of the team.
It should be said that Lip already has a new home, as he has been transferred to the Atlanta Reign, meaning at least one of this once championship winning roster will be back for the 2023 season.
