Mini consoles are all the hype right now. We've got the SNES mini and the PlayStation Classic already, but there's soon to be an entirely different beast joining the fray - the Sega Mega Drive Mini (Sega Genesis Mini for the international fans out there). At E3 we spoke with localisation producer Damian Mougakos, where we got to hear just what makes the Sega Mega Drive Mini better than the rest.

"One of the things that strongly separates this from the other consoles out there is the development team and the quality of the emulation," said Mougakos. "It's done by a team called M2, which a lot of people are becoming increasingly familiar with because they are the gold standard in emulation in the industry and they did an astonishing job of bringing these games over. They play so well, and they look fantastic, we couldn't be happier with the results."

Not only does this console look exactly like its larger equivalent, but it also features two classic 3-button controllers and a working cartridge door. Unfortunately, this won't play any cartridges, but it does make the console feel that much more authentic. The Sega Mega Drive Mini is scheduled to launch on September 19, bringing 42 titles ready to plug-in and play, and as for a price, interested fans can look to pick up the system for £69.99.

Will you be taking a trip down nostalgia avenue when the Sega Mega Drive Mini launches in September?
