Scottie Scheffler is the second golf Major winner of the year, holding back an inspired Jon Rahm, the Spaniard, who has also won two Majors, US Open 2021 and Augusta 2023. Scheffler, 28, from New Jersey, adds a third Major to his collection, after Augusta 2022 and 2024.
Scheffler, the World No. 1, started with a three-stroke lead, but what started to look like a sure victory turned into a cat and mouse game with Rahm, the Basque golfer former World No. 1 and last year the second best paid athlete in the world according to Forbes. The chase did not last long, however, and a couple of two birdies in the back nine allowed Rahm to keep a definitive distance.
A dominant five-stroke win, the largest at U.S. Open since Rory McIlroy won by eight in 2012. In the end, Rahm's collapse allowed Bryson DeChambeau, runner-up last year at the PGA ?Championship, to reach second place at this year's U.S. Open.
