A report surfaced last week saying that German Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 had closed a deal to purchase the LOL team Elements. Yesterday, the club confirmed that report, making the deal as official as can be.
There are few details on the purchase out right now, but the football club will hold a press conference on Thursday about the purchase.
As we've written earlier, Schalke 04 isn't the first football club to move into esports, but it is the first to do so at this level. Turkish football club Besiktas signed on a LOL team last year, but ended up letting them go. Wolfsburg and West Ham United have signed on FIFA players, too. But this is the first time an established football club moves into professional League of Legends at the top level.
