While Square Enix sold off IO interactive and said that Hitman didn't do as well as expected sales-wise, Crystal Dynamics likely won't face the same destiny. The head honcho of Square Enix, Yosuke Matsuda, has now revealed that Rise of the Tomb Raider has reached almost seven million sold copies since its release two years ago (originally on Xbox, then PC, and it has been out for one year on PlayStation 4).

The original Tomb Raider reboot has sold even better, apparently, with eleven million copies sold. That said, it should be noted that the studio's first entry in the series has, of course, had more than twice the amount of time on the market and it was also released on old-gen consoles (meanwhile, out of the old-gen consoles, Rise of the Tomb Raider only landed on Xbox 360). Quite impressive, of course, and next year will also mark the premiere of the new Tomb Raider movie (starring Alicia Vikander as Miss Croft) and it is also rumoured that the next game will be called Shadow of the Tomb Raider and that it will see release in 2018.

Perhaps we'll get to see something on The Game Awards next month? Let's keep our fingers crossed.
